Are you eager to start an apprenticeship in Carpentry? We are looking for a applicant who is keen and passionate about starting a trade in building and construction that is outgoing, reliable and not afraid to get their hands dirty.

Our client is a small carpentry business that is looking to take on an apprentice to assist him with his clients and jobs around the Illawarra.

If you are eager and committed to start a carpentry apprenticeship, want to become trade qualified, have some experience in the field from school or work experience and aren't afraid to get your hands dirty. This opportunity is perfect for you.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The role is based in the Wollongong and is a one person show at the moment and needs an apprentice that is truly committed, reliable, confident and willing to learn.

The business specialises in residential carpentry in the Illawarra and surrounding areas, focusing on house extensions, renovations, creation of desks and pergolas. 

The role is full-time (38 hours per week), Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work.

ABOUT THE APPRENTICESHIP

The apprenticeship duration is 4-years. During the 4-year duration you will attend TAFE 4 times every month and complete learnings that will be involved in your job role as an apprentice carpenter.

At the end of the apprenticeship you should be competent in your TAFE learnings and workplace skills and provided with your Certificate III in Carpentry - CPC30220 - and become trade qualified!

DAILY DUTIES INVOLVED

  • Operate Hand Tools & Machinery

  • Assist with Measuring & Cutting Materials and ensure all cuts are concise for quality assurance and overall structure of project.

  • Assemble materials to construct walls, floors, and other essential components of projects.

  • Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment from work truck

  • Follow safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a safe work environment

  • Perform manual labor such as lifting, digging, and carrying materials

  • Clean up job sites and remove debris

  • Confidently communicate to clients and other tradesmen on site

  • Follow instructions from supervisors and work as part of a team

 

SKILLS REQUIRED

Problem Solving: Tackle on-the-spot challenges and think critically to execute projects smoothly.

Communication: Work closely with teammates and clients to ensure flawless project execution.

Attention to Detail: Precision is vital as every measurement, cut, and assembly impacts the final result.

Basic Math Understanding: Measure materials accurately, calculate dimensions, and ensure all work is aligned.

Dexterity & Stamina: Handle tools and materials with skill and strength, staying focused throughout the day.

Wood Work: Have some general experience from wood work from your school technology classes. Have that basic understanding of tools and there operations.

 

MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or New Zealand Citizen

  • Drivers Licence (Provisional Licence - minimum requirement) 

  • Have your own reliable vehicle 

  • White Card or willing to obtain

  • Have experience within school wood work or construction at home or work experience

  • Not have any previous qualifications exceeding a Certificate III in Carpentry 

  • Be reliable, a strong communicator and have some experience in the industry

This is an ENTRY LEVEL APPRENTICESHIP

Qualifications that exceed a Certificate III in Carpentry WILL NOT be suitable.
