About Mackay Shipyard

Pacific Marine Group (PMG) has an opportunity for experienced people to join the team at the shipyard facility based in Mackay. Servicing the Mackay & Whitsunday region for over 20 years, the Mackay Shipyard provides vessel maintenance & survey support services including painting & blasting, welding & fabrication, mechanical servicing, and all associated activities.

Working within a team environment, under the Shipyard Manager, these roles will support and assist each other with the successful delivery of vessel slipping’s, inspections, and maintenance while upholding safety and efficiency in achieving high-quality outcomes for clients.

About the role

Pacific Marine Group are looking for candidates with previous spray-painting and blasting experience in industrial, automotive or marine industries.

With a view to a permanent position for the right candidate, the successful candidate will be required Monday to Friday 7.00 am to 3.30 pm a day with the expectation of working overtime on a regular basis when vessels are up (Including Saturdays and occasional Sundays) We offer a very competitive rate of pay plus penalties (Not a Flat Rate).

About the candidate

The successful candidate would ideally possess the following:

• Cert III in Surface Preparation and Coating Application.

• Experience in marine or industrial spray painting.

• Willingness to learn all aspects of marine industrial painting and blasting.

• Elevated Work Platform

• Working At Heights

• Dogging ticket (preferable)

• Working in Confined Space

• Forklift License (Highly Desirable)

• Able to provide a clear Drug & Alcohol Test

• Current White card

You will be required to carry out the preparation and application of paints and specialised protective finishes in a marine environment as directed to ensure all structures are sufficiently protected from the various environmental elements.

Duties can range from industrial spray painting, plant maintenance, water proofing, concrete repair, and sandblasting. The candidates must also be able to work in a team as well as alone when required.
